First Designs...

The first of my designs for my new letterpress! I wanted to keep them simple and timeless. Being that it's November, I doubt I'll be able to print them in time, but I've always felt holiday designs are the most fun to create. Oh and I love snowflakes.

So next weekend, I'll be working hard cleaning the press and all the other accoutrements that came with it. The stuff was sitting in a warehouse for 2 years plus, so it has a nice layer of dust on it. I plan on attacking the iron with WD-40 and using a non-oily wood cleaner for the furniture cabinet.

The Press Has Arrived!

It's finally here--my new press! It arrived on October 19th after several delays of rain and scheduling conflicts, but I'm glad it's finally here and safe and sound. It needs a good deal of cleaning, but it's actually ready to start printing with a little oiling. Still, I want to clean it for good measure.

Press Delivery

Eh, well, the press delivery is held up somewhat. It'll be arriving sometime between the 11th and 18th of October. I am still hoping to see it very soon so I can try my hand at printing some holiday cards!

New Website & Etsy Profile

I'm jumping the gun here, since I don't even have my press yet, but I simply couldn't wait to get all my Two Leaf Press sites and profiles reserved and ready-to-go. This blog is the fastest, easiest way to keep up-to-date with what's happening inside the press room, but feel free to drop by the website or check out my Etsy.com page.

I should have some things ready in the first part of 2009 - and if I don't have printed items for sale by then, I hope to at least have a portfolio of letterpress designs ready to print, which I will display on my website. I thank you for your patience. 2009 will be an exciting year!

Welcome to Two Leaf Press!

This is the first posting to my new Two Leaf Press blog, in which I will describe my adventure into the world of antique letterpress! I have been a graphic designer since 1998, but I am an artist from birth. With a creative mother and engineer father, it makes sense that I would find interesting any process which merged both artistry and mechanics. And the art of letterpress, it seems, fits that mold perfectly.

For well over a year now, I've been slowly falling in love with the textural quality of letterpress, and the historian in me is tickled by the prospect of using antique equipment to bring this art form to life. So, after looking and looking for a small table-top in my price range, I happened to come across an 8x12 Chandler & Price (new style) somewhat nearby for a good price. It's arriving on October 11th! And they were even kind enough to deliver it for me. It's in great shape and supposedly ready to print...however, I will probably spend some time getting to know my pretty new (old) press by cleaning it up somewhat.

So off I go to explore letterpress printing. I have a great deal to learn, and I expect the next few months (years?) will be quite an experience. I hope you will join me!
